I picked her out from a litter at a pet shelter in Eureka, MT.  She was the one who climbed up and nuzzled my chin.

Magic in her more daring days!

Magic's most exciting adventure was one time when we were camping on our land in Eureka, MT.  We slept in a tent.  One morning, we couldn't find Magic anywhere.  Merlin was there, but no Magic.  We heard from some neighbors that some coyotes had come through the night before.  We realized they may have gotten her.  I looked all over our 20 acres.  Finally, I went down to weed around the Christmas trees the previous owners had planted.  (We had discovered them hidden by tall grasses.)  Around dinner time, while Mike was cooking, I asked Merlin where Magic was.  He wandered into the forest.  I followed him with my walking stick that I usually carried in case a hawk or owl thinks one of my kitties is their dinner. After a bit, I heard a faint meow.  It took a bit to figure out where it was coming from.  It was coming from the top of the largest pine tree on the property!  Merlin had led me to her.  Apparently she had climbed up there to escape the coyotes.  And it worked.  Now we just had to figure out how to get here down.  Since the tree was in a spot where we were planning to make a pond, Mike decided to go ahead and fell the tree.  He tried the chain saw, but we were afraid the noise would scare her.  He tried an ax, but it shook the tree too much...especially the top bit, so he switched back to the chain saw.  As the tree fell and neared the ground we saw Magic jump clear.  Both her and Merlin then disappeared into the forest.  They both came wandering into camp about 15 minutes later as though nothing had happened.  We were going to name the pond Magic Tree Lake.

Note: My cats were only ever outside supervised!
